“Half of the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don’t mean to do harm. But the harm does not interest them.”
– T.S. Eliot
This quote reminds me of a few people I work with. What they want, more than anything, is to have authority, make decisions, and get credit for good things that happen. Unfortunately, because of their flaws and lack of self-understanding, they just make things more complicated for everyone else. They don’t realize what they are and aren’t good at, and they won’t leave well enough alone. They want to put a hand in everything, and the rest of us just want them to get out of the way. May I learn to keep my mouth shut, and my hands to myself, and never be one of these people.
This quote also reminds me that it doesn’t take an ill will to hurt people or mess things up. It just takes me thinking only about myself.
